TDS & TCS
Seven lessons covering Tax Deducted at Source and Tax Collected at Source — TAN registration, salary TDS, contractor deductions, filing challans, and the TRACES portal.
This course covers the complete TDS/TCS lifecycle for a business like Sunrise Retail Pvt Ltd — from obtaining a TAN to filing quarterly returns and issuing certificates on TRACES. TDS and TCS are the government's primary mechanism for collecting income tax in advance, and for companies there are no size or turnover exemptions. Getting it right is not optional: missed deductions are disallowed as business expenses, and late deposits attract interest at 1.5% per month.
What you'll learn
- How TDS works as an advance tax collection mechanism, who must deduct it, and how to obtain a TAN
- Salary TDS under Section 192 — how to estimate annual tax and split it across 12 months under old and new regime
- Contractor, professional, and commission deductions (Sections 194C, 194J, 194H) with exact thresholds
- Rent TDS under Section 194I and related sections (194IA, 194IB, 194Q)
- How to deposit TDS using Challan ITNS 281 and file quarterly returns (Form 24Q and 26Q)

Case study company
Every lesson works through real numbers for Sunrise Retail Pvt Ltd, an electronics trading company in Hyderabad (GSTIN: 36AACCS1234A1ZP, TAN: HYDS12345A, FY 2025-26). You will see their April 2025 payroll TDS, contractor payments, office rent deductions, and more — the same company you worked with in the GST and Accounting courses, now viewed through the TDS lens.
How this fits with the other courses
Complete the Income Tax & ITR course alongside or before this one — TDS rates for salary depend directly on the slab rates and rebates covered there. Core Accounting (Lesson 25) shows TDS payable as a balance sheet liability; this course explains exactly how that liability builds month by month. The Tally Payroll module (Lesson 24 in Tally Prime) automates the salary TDS computation this course covers manually.
