Common mistakes when reading PAN

O (letter)0 (zero)

PAN never contains the letter O — it looks like zero but is always the digit.

I (letter i)1 (digit one)

PAN never contains the letter I — the digit 1 (one) is used in the serial positions.

Characters 6–9 as letters4 digits (0–9)

Positions 6–9 are always numeric digits. If you see letters, the PAN may be typed incorrectly.

PAN is permanent — it does not change with address, name (except legal name change via court order), or bank changes. This tool validates the format only; it does not verify the PAN against Income Tax department records.
